18/6/2014 0 Comments Shooting stars at Curries FountainMembers of the African National Congress in KwaZulu Natal took to Curries Fountain sportsfield on Sunday 9 March 2014 to show that they still possess skills on the soccer field. The leadership took on Rock Stars XI, which was a team consisting of recognised people from the entertainment industry, including musician Zakes Bantwini, in the first soccer match for the 2014 season played by the ANC Provincial Executive Committee. MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works, Ravi Pillay had nostalgic memories from when he used to visit Curries Fountain in his youth. The ANC team was led by KZN Premier Senzo Mchunu who was delighted by their 5-4 win. He emphasised the importance of physical education and sport to the youth.

18/6/2014 0 Comments Giving the Youth hopeAhead of Youth Day, the Ethekwini Municipality Community Participation and Action Support Unit held a Youth Empowerment Programme at Curries Fountain. The programme also aimed to commemorate the Soweto uprising. The event was held on Saturday 14 June 2014. The aim of the event was to recognise the role of youth in the liberation of South Africa from the Apartheid regime. The attendees were presented with the opportunity to reflect on the milestones in our democracy and the strides made in the past 20 years in youth development. The event was attended by more than 2000 youth. Mayor of Ethekwini Municipality, James Nxumalo addressed the youth of the day to encourage and motivate them to strive to achieve more.
On Saturday 15 March 2014 the Ethekwini Trucking Sector Wellness Forum held a Wellness Day at the Curries Fountain Sports Development Centre. The event was held in conjunction with trucking companies, fuel Industry, NBCRFLI, Unions, eThekwini Municipality’s Health Unit and other stakeholders. The Ethekwini Trucking Sector Wellness Forum was formed in 2009 and its main purpose is fighting the increase of HIV and AIDS in the trucking sector. The purpose of the Wellness Day was to promote wellness and healthy lifestyle amongst the trucking fraternity, involve truck drivers and their families in the fight against HIV and AIDS and provide a fun-filled day that encouraged community and family involvement. There were various stakeholders promoting healthy life style and wellness services, entertainment for the whole family and sporting events - ( soccer, netball, tug of war).
Mobile clinics offered HIV & AIDS Voluntary Counselling and Testing (HCT) services throughout the day. Also general health management services were offered free of charge, including eye tests and tests for diabetes and hypertension. |
